Dedicated … 2 hosting

Question:

Im looking to open up a game server for an opensource project and I need not only a dedicated server but something either that very server OR another server to host the 1.5gig client for the game to about 150 users a month and probably about 500 users for the first month. I see sometimes like 120 a month for something that says 2000gigs per month. I then see something like 180 a month for unmetered, does this unmetered mean I can put that 1.5 gig file for http download does it really mean there is no limit to the ammount of times per month my users download this file? Please help a newbie to the hosting world out!

In most cases unmetered does not mean unlimited. Unmetered simply means that you can use as much bandwidth as you can get with your throughput. 100mbit, 10mbit, 20mbit, etc.

Unmetered can only be defined as which is NOT metered, it does not mean you can push 10 TB monthly. Bandwidth is maxed out to port speed, if your server is having 10 Mbit dedicated port then unmetered means you can push upto 3300 GB monthly. You have to confirm this with the company what they are offering you.

As if your server is sharing port with 10 other servers then it might not even push 1000 GB. So, in most cases $120 for 2000 GB bandwidth is better than $180 for unmetered if your requirement is 2000 GB Monthly. Hope it helps!
